Following great success at their first community history meet, Deal’s ‘The History Project’ are back, this time at The Astor Theatre.

The Deal based community interest company who visit schools, create fascinating mini-documentaries on local history and provide daily history lessons to an ever-growing global audience on social media, was created by two childhood friends.  George Chittenden and Peter Fishlock founded the company a year ago and have some ambitious plans for the future. They believe that this area has more history than anywhere on earth and feel privileged to live here.

“It’s not just the history though, it’s the fact that so many great organisations are based in this area and so many local people are interested in our past.  We thought we would do something different” Pete says.  The pair decided to create a monthly meeting for the community to get together, and a platform for both individuals and organisations alike to share stories of this area’s past.

April’s meeting will feature interesting talks from speakers including David White, Chairman of The Deal Society, who will give an illustrated talk about Deal’s conservation areas,  Phil Eyden from The Western Heights Preservation Society,  Walmer Castle’s Head Gardener Mark Brent on the huge improvements that EH are making to their site this summer and Jenny Wall on the Curling family of Kingsdown, a story of Victorian philanthropy and Terry Crawford on the exciting new Royal Marine’s Heritage Trail.

It’s a free event so come along, grab a drink from the bar and enjoy the journey into our past.  If you have a story to tell, then the history project would love to hear from you.  Email- thehistoryproject@yahoo.com You can follow them on social media: www.facebook.com/TheHistoryProject1/ or take a look at their website www.thehistoryproject.co.uk
