GAVIN ESLER is an award winning television and radio broadcaster, novelist and journalist. He is the author of five novels and two non-fiction books, The United States of Anger, and most recently Lessons from the Top, a study of how leaders tell stories to make other people follow them. It’s based on personal encounters with a wide variety of leaders, from Bill Clinton and Angela Merkel to Tony Blair, Margaret Thatcher, and even cultural leaders such as Dolly Parton.

Gavin Esler is currently Chancellor of the University of Kent, and a voting member of BAFTA. His university awards include an honorary doctorate from the University of Kent and a Doctorate of Letters from Glasgow Caledonian University.

NEIL GORDON KINNOCK, Baron Kinnock is a British Labour Party politician. He served as a Member of Parliament from 1970 until 1995, first for Bedwellty and then for Islwyn. He was the Leader of the Labour Party and Leader of the Opposition from 1983 until 1992.

Kinnock led the Labour Party to a surprise fourth consecutive defeat at the 1992 general election, despite the party being ahead in most opinion polls; which had predicted either a narrow Labour victory or a hung parliament. He went on to become the Vice-President of the European Commission from 1999-2004.
