The Swaleside Othello, both opera and play, will feed into a project working with adult male prisoners on the Isle of

Sheppey in the Autumn of 2017. The play, showing in the afternoon, will bring to life Shakespeare’s text with a young cast led by Jordan Kouame-Hart. In the same setting, the opera, sung in the original Italian, has a more mature cast suited to the demands of Verdi’s score, with Kent Opera’s Robin Pietà in the title role and Royal Opera House stalwart Steven Page as Iago.

Both will focus on the intense relationships between the seven main characters.

As an A-level set text, the productions are being offered to schools as workshops before attending the performances.
